Due to urgent family matters, I am taking a much-needed break from blogging, but not from politics.
There are only two creatures of value on the face of this earth: those with a commitment, and those who acquire the commitment of others.--John Adams (quoted in "1776")
"As I write these words, the enemy is plainly in sight beyond the river, and I begin to notice that many of us are lads under fifteen and old men, none of whom can truly be called soldiers. How it will end, only providence can direct. But dear God, what brave men I shall lose before this business ends." George Washington, July 1776
Katy's Conservative Corner is posting an e-mail we received from the Eagle Forum, regarding the big vote on the Energy Tax. Speaker Nancy Pelosi has scheduled the Household Energy Tax Vote this Week! Please Take Action to defeat the so-called Global Warming bill!!!!
We thank the Eagle Forum for providing this important information to us:
Late Monday night, during yet another closed-door meeting in the House of Representatives, the liberal majority maneuvered to bring the highly unpopular 946-page energy-rationing bill, better known as the Waxman-Markey cap-and-tax bill, to the House floor for a vote by the end of this week!
Sponsored by Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA) and Rep. Edward Markey (D-MA), the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009, H.R. 2454 imposes a system of "cap-and-tax" in order to combat so-called "global warming." This massive, across-the-board household energy tax is being disguised by congressional liberals and is being sold under the slogan "cap-and-trade," which simply means giving the government power to put a cap on the amount of carbon emissions (CO2) produced by the production of electricity, gasoline, and heating oil, and forcing businesses to actively lobby Congress for higher cap levels and to buy permits for the emissions they are allowed.
Rather than calling it "cap-and-trade," it should be called "cap-and-tax"-as it caps Americans' standard of living and taxes our use of products whose manufacture emits CO2.
If passed and signed into law, H.R. 2454 will further cripple our economy and drain your pockets in the following ways:
1. It will raise your household electricity rates by 90 percent, gasoline by 74 percent, and residential natural gas prices by 55 percent by 2035, after adjusting for inflation.
2. It imposes an annual burden of $144.8 billion per year on U.S. households, and it will reduce household earnings by a projected $37.8 billion.
3. It will further cut U.S. employment levels by 965,000 jobs by reducing economic output by $136 billion per year-this translates to a $1,145 increase in energy costs per American household. 4. It will force low-income households to disproportionately bear the across-the-board energy cost increase, as a larger percentage of the poor's income goes toward energy costs, as opposed to wealthier households.
5. It sets the stage to effectively kill the coal industry as it will be taxed so heavily, it will not be able to sustain itself.
6. If enacted, H.R. 2454 would be the biggest government takeover of the economy since the Second World War, which is the last time energy, food, and other basic commodities were rationed. Waxman-Markey amounts to a $2 trillion tax increase on middle-class Americans. Not only would this be the biggest tax increase in the history of the world, but it is yet another example of President Barack Obama violating his campaign promise not to raise taxes on the middle class. This cap-and-tax bill is simply an underhanded way of facilitating a colossal transfer of wealth from consumers to big businesses.
7. Household energy taxation with the ultimate goal of energy-rationing is dangerous, not only for your pocketbook, but also for the well-being of your family and your standard of living.
8. H.R. 2454 is a hidden tax and it must be defeated this week in the House!
Take Action:
The Democrat Majority has announced that amendments to this bill can be made no later than 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 25th. We expect a floor vote to occur soon after that, so please begin calling your Representatives and tell them to vote NO on cap-and-tax!

Here are some odds and ends today from the various national blogs about the Democrats' Energy Bill Tax:
The Dems are RUSHING this energy bill through and Congressman Spencer Bachus blogged about it: http://www.redcounty.com/house-leadership-bypassing-key-committees-cap-and-tax

Reminders:
Warren Buffett called cap and trade “a huge tax and there’s no sense in calling it anything else.”

Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.): “Cap and trade is a tax and it’s a great big one.”

Someone, Rep. Rick Boucher (D-Va) claims there is “not a penny of tax in this legislation.”

Boucher is obviously misleading the American people with what he says.

Economists at the WSJ Say Waxman’s Energy Bill is Full of HOT AIR:
Despite House Energy and Commerce Chairman Henry Waxman's many payoffs to Members, rural and Blue Dog Democrats remain wary of voting for a bill that will impose crushing costs on their home-district businesses and consumers. The leadership's solution to this problem is to simply claim the bill defies the laws of economics.
...Americans should know that those Members who vote for this climate bill are voting for what is likely to be the biggest tax in American history. Even Democrats can't repeal that reality.

Wednesday evening, Bill Randall (left - photo MeckGOP), announced his intentions to challenge U.S. Rep. Brad Miller (D-13). Randall, a retired US Navy Meteorologist, lives with his wife in Wake Forest, just North of Raleigh.
He's what your blogger deems a "true" conservative, in that he touts strong social beliefs, as well as his staunch fiscal ideals. He plans to officially enter the race on July 1st.
In a letter he wrote to Republican 13th Congressional District Chairman, David Robinson, Randall stated:
"The race for this pivotal U.S. Congressional seat will be challenging, and will require that we are all pulling in the same direction. The vital importance of your support, along with the other counties in the 13th District, CANNOT BE OVERSTATED.
"For your information, I have been invited as one of the speakers at the
Independence Day (Family) "Tea Party" at Halifax Mall in downtown Raleigh (1:00 - 5:00 PM). "
Congratulations to Bill Randall. Your blogger hears that others are considering entering and that there may be a Republican primary. KCC feels certain that these candidates will conduct themselves as Ladies and Gentlemen and so that money can be saved for the fall 2010 campaign to send Brad Miller back to Raleigh.
Conservatives in Raleigh don't especially want him back, but perhaps he can busy himself by playing with dirt, gardening, and entertain himself by hanging out with the hippies and druggies at coffee houses.
Katy's Conservative Corner is currently on vacation.

Watch Gov. Beverly Perdue announce her $1.5 billion (with a B) Tax increase, HERE, but please don't do this over dinner!
“Governor Perdue’s call for a job-destroying $1.5 billion tax increase is irresponsible and could not come at a worse time. As North Carolina faces the most dire economic recession in decades including double digit unemployment rates, Governor Perdue refuses to abandon the tax and spend policies that have brought us to this point. The Democratic addiction to more spending and higher taxes is a surefire strategy for more job losses and delayed recovery. History shows increasing taxes during a recession has never produced an economic recovery. Republicans proposed a reasonable alternative of freezing spending at existing levels, a policy that will not require debilitating cuts to education or job-destroying tax increases. Politicians can only be effective if the people that elected them trust them to keep their word – Governor Perdue should think twice before breaking her campaign promise not to raise taxes.”
